The engine of a waste collection vehicle has to perform with great versatility during its working day. With the DUALPOWER option, FAUN Zoeller (UK) Limited has created an optimized power train with its own hybrid diesel-electric power unit that stores the energy otherwise lost when braking and sensibly reuses it to carry out the various work processes required when collecting waste. This not only relieves the vehicles main engine, but substantially increases fuel consumption and substantially decreases CO2 emissions into the environment. Instead of energy-intensive compressed air brakes, the FAUN Zoeller (UK) Limited ROTOPRESS DUALPOWER is equipped with an electrical braking system that not only promotes energy recovery, it also greatly minimizes brake wear. The additional power unit is fitted with a soundproofing capsule, which considerably reduces noise compared to a conventional waste collection vehicle without hybrid drive.

Exclusive to FAUN Zoeller (UK) Limited, the Eco Drive Assistant (EDA) is an electronic control device designed to reduce fuel consumption by optimising driving for “stop/start” refuse collection driving cycles. The EDA keeps the engine in the optimal torque zone by supervising the gear change timing and effectively removing the “heavy right foot” syndrome. The EDA reduces stress on the engine and leads to fuel consumption reduction in domestic collection rounds of up to 20%.
